What 2 Months As A Hypnotherapist Taught Me About Your Mind

Danny Miranda · The Magical Door

In August 2025, I decided to be a hypnotherapist.

This may go down as the most significant decision of my life. I studied for a few months...

And on November 13 of last year, I officially conducted my first sessions.

(Quick side note, what is a hypnotherapist? Basically, I get you into in a deeply relaxed, meditative state where you are more open and receptive to changes. Then we program what you desire into your mind.)

Now, two months later, I have over 80 sessions under my belt.

What does this mean for you?

Well, there are a number of things I’ve uncovered about the human mind that have blown me away...

  1. Everybody is getting hypnotized, every day. There is this idea that some people can’t be hypnotized. I don’t buy it. To be hypnotized just means you’re in a theta brainwave state... which just means you’re deeply relaxed like you are with meditation, doing creative tasks, with increased suggestibility. If you ever find yourself staring out of a train window or driving somewhere and forgot where you were... congrats, you were hypnotized. If you’re logging onto X and spending any time scrolling the feed... congrats you’re getting hypnotized.

  2. In order to go deeper into a trance state, take yourself out of it and then bring yourself back in. This seems counterintuitive, but it actually works. During the induction (beginning stage of the hypnotherapy process), I do this with clients by deliberately having them open and close their eyes. The reason why this works is because when you go out of something and come back into it, you feel more comfortable. Social media sites do this, too. They deliberately show you posts they know you won’t like. And then they follow this by showing you posts you will like so you go deeper into trance.

  3. If you don’t program yourself, someone else will. This has always been true. But it’s more true today than ever before. Just because there are more possible inputs. There are more feeds. There are more people who want your attention. You can go so deep into rabbit holes, that before you know it, you forget where you were. That’s because the algorithms are so good. So it’s important to know where you’re going.

  4. It’s important to get really clear on what you desire. Your destination impacts your direction. As part of many sessions, I write out three different suggestions for the client based on what they would like to achieve. The statements say “basically” the same thing. For example: (a) I am happy (b) Every day, in every way, it is easier for me to be happier, (c) I think happy thoughts and live a happy life. But one of those probably feels most true to you. And that will be different for every person. That’s why it’s important to really make the statements you are programming with yourself to really hit for you.

  5. Repetition, repetition, repetition. This is not a one-and-done type process. I personally do different hypnosis audio recordings every day. You wouldn’t just go to the gym once and be done with it. It’s a process that you work on for life. And I view my mind training the same way.

  6. Today, it’s common to have a personal trainer; tomorrow, it will be common to have a mind trainer. I can’t help but feel this is the cutting edge. If you tell someone you’re seeing a hypnotherapist today, they might think it’s a little bit weird of woo-woo. Probably less so today than it was a couple of years ago. I think it will be so common in 10 years that people will be doing some sort of mental programming like they go to the gym today. Your mind fitness is arguably more important than your physical fitness (since what you think is likely impacting and/or creating your body). And your mind fitness is impacting every area of your life.

  7. If you heard other people’s problems, you’d likely be a lot less critical of your own. My job is to hear other people’s issues. Stuff like what they’re doing wrong, how they’re treating themselves by themselves, and why they haven’t reached their big goal. And after a few sessions, you start to see the similarities. People are constantly beating themselves up for stuff that doesn’t even matter. And that probably means you, too!

  8. Choose a job where you get the benefits. Every time I do hypnotherapy with someone, I get the benefits. I see my heart rate drop to 55-65 bpm. And I’m transferring that calm, relaxed state to the client. I also get to program all the positive, helpful suggestions to myself. It feels like my growth is getting supercharged. Every time I help someone, I feel better because, in part, I’m programming myself.

  9. Your conscious mind is not telling you the full picture. If someone asked you, “How is your emotional self doing?” You might have an answer that makes logical sense and sounds good. “It’s doing good, no complaints.” But I take you into trance and ask you the same question, you’ll have a deeper, truer answer than you conscious mind could come up with. We have conversations with other people’s conscious minds all day. But it’s rarely we talk to their subconscious.

  10. Your spiritual self knows all is well. Oftentimes, part of the introductory session I take people on is a self-assessment whereby I have them talk to different aspects of themselves (physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual). I live in the United States and most of my clients are in Western countries. There is a heavy emphasis on work here. Some of my clients don’t have a regular spiritual practice. But it doesn’t matter. Your spiritual self knows all is well. Even if you’re an atheist. The spiritual self is always kind, loving, and helpful. The message it gives many people is one of forgiveness, appreciation, love, and peace. Doing all of these sessions has strengthened my spirituality in a real and practical way.

This is genuinely the most fun I’ve ever had working. It’s like I get to a personal podcast with the deepest parts of someone’s soul. And every day feels like a gift.

It seems to have been equally enjoyable and expansive for others.
