As for our chat, Mel was immediately familiar, jokey and conversational, which made me relax. That congeniality was helped along by me having given “tech support” on the phone and on Zoom in advance.

When I say “tech support,” what I mean is, we both explained what we did and didn’t know about a tech problem, which was immediately resolved when Mel’s new USB microphone arrived with Amazon Prime.

It was a superb interview; she’s very quick. And she’s about to undertake a month of shows at the Edinburgh Fringe. The full audio is below.

I’m rather fond of Mel, and I’m so pleased to see the interview published. I bought the complete collection of her Radio 4 series The Hudson and Pepperdine Show in preparation for our talk, and I suggest you do the same.

She’s performing most days at the Fringe - as early as 4:20 PM - so you can go and see her and then have your dinner, unless you’re in the habit of eating later, in which case, I don’t know how you manage to cope.
