We are returning to our roots. Start by looking around. This is the foundation of Social Leadership: to consider what is local to you. To look into your community. To reach into your network. To walk within your local system. And whilst doing so to consider your intention, the actions that you take, and the impact that follows.
This is about leadership through the very smallest of actions, but connected up through common language and purpose within this global community.
Look at where you stand. Not where you wish you were, but where you actually are. What do you see that you like, what do you see that is unfair, unbalanced, fractured, or which needs attention?
Where will you act? Simply where you are told to act, or where action is needed?
And consider what your role is in this: to observe, report, direct, own, delegate, interfere, correct, calibrate, or all of these, or something else?
The foundation of our practice, as Social Leaders, lies in an honest assessment of where we stand, what we see, and where we will act. Because Social Leadership carries a bias to action, but the very smallest of actions. The local, intimate, personal, grounded.
It is carried in an understanding of obligation, and responsibility: our responsibility to ourselves, to each other, and to our Organisations. But also beyond that: to our broader civic societies, and even up to the level of our planetary system. The requirement for us to do what is right, not simply what is easy.
Use your sixty seconds today in stillness, observing the system that surrounds you. And to have that first thought: what needs to change - in yourself, or within that system.
