Wildfire smoke spreads across Canada and U.S.

In recent days, heavy smoke has filled the skies over Southern Canada and some northern American cities. The fires (as seen in our last post) started in the Ontario region, and there are still more than 190 wildfires raging across the northern part of the province, with more than 850 active wildfires burning across Canada overall.

These timelapses capture two spots where major fires broke out and three areas blanketed by the resulting smoke — Lake Huron, Michigan, New York City, and Toronto, Canada. As I write this, air quality remains among the worst in the world in cities like Toronto, Boston, and New York City.
