Today I’m excited to share the official SEE YOU Creative Toolkit! This resource compiles all of my digital tools, analog materials, and creative inspirations. If you’re a big fan of lists and research rabbit holes, this is for you.

For those who are new here—my name is Carolyn, and I’m an artist, illustrator, and writer. I used to work as a software engineer in tech before leaving my job roughly two years ago. I started my visual art practice in 2021 as a self-taught beginner, learning from artists I admired online and experimenting with different practices and materials. The Creative Toolkit is a distillation of my learnings and rabbit holes over the years, condensed into my top recommendations across three categories.

I share all of the apps I use for business admin, budgeting, visual art, and writing. I also dive into the electronics that are part of my workstation, along with my favorite Procreate brush sets for juicy, analog-inspired textures.

My favorite section! Here are my recommendations for art materials that I love. I have experimented with too many art supplies over the years, but the ones I list are my beloveds!
I share my favorite paper pads, notebooks, journals, paints, pencils, pastels, pens, ink, zine tools, and tools for creating on the go.
Though I share my monthly inspirations in 7 Things, this Toolkit houses my main lists of media recommendations. I’ve included my favorite Substack publications—broken out by creativity/art/design and writing—as well as Patreon artists, media websites, and personal websites to get lost in and admire.
The inspiration list continues with my favorite Youtube accounts, podcasts, online communities, books, films, and a rotating list of artists and illustrators I love!
I plan to update the Creative Toolkit every few months with my latest recommendations, so that it can remain an ongoing resource for my paid readers. Always feel free to email me or leave a comment if there are other recommendations you’d like me to include.

What’s your favorite page? The Field Notes blog! I absolutely love writing & sharing my thoughts / ideas and that part of my website is definitely the most active.
How has creating your web world been fruitful for your creative practice? I walked away from prioritizing social media a few years ago. Focusing the bulk of my priorities & time on my website has given me such a feeling of freedom and has greatly lessened the pressure I was feeling to constantly be creating short form content to feed the social media machines. Instead, my creative practice has really slowed down and has become so much more intentional.
Why is being Quietly Public important to you? I used to think I had to be public facing. I forced myself to do so many things that were completely misaligned with who I am and how I enjoy to create (such as creating little video reels). I am very anti-trendy BS and anti-capitalist, so giving myself permission to find a rhythm and approach of being visible without sacrificing so much really gave me a sense of autonomy. It also showed me that you don’t have to “play the game” in order to survive or thrive as an indie small business or brand.
