You're Invited to our Feb 7th Opening!

As we slough off the 2025 snakeskin and slide into a brighter 2026, I’d love for you to join us for the opening presentation of Prosper Legault’s brand-new works, created during his residency with us at Current Plans.

I first met Prosper 2 years ago in Paris, at a show in which he was the laureate of Prix 1 % Marché de l’art, a prize from the City of Paris. I was impressed by the energy and dynamicism of the sculptures, the collage of neons and advertising signs shouting in my face, like if you compressed a Mongkok street into one single plane. He visited Hong Kong that same winter and we became fast friends, having claypot rice in Yau Ma Tei and encouraging him to purchase silly tourist souvenirs in the night market (supporting the HK economy right?)

Fast forward one year, he’s at Current Plans as our first 2026 artist-in-residence, and we’re inviting you to check out his presentation of new works…

For the past month, Prosper has been a flâneur in Hong Kong. From neon-lit streets to hidden beaches and bustling flea markets, collecting fragments of our city’s charmingly chaotic soul. He’s transformed these found objects and urban debris into striking sculptures, where a forgotten sign becomes art and a piece of rubbish tells a new story. Here, it’s literally ‘one man’s trash is another’s treasure’.

Prosper collects items and debris from the urban environment and reassembles them in unfamiliar ways. By juxtaposing neon lights, illuminated advertisements, shop signs, he provides new and unexpected meanings by bringing everyday reality into art. In a similar way to composing and mixing music, Prosper samples well-known objects, scenes, and images, remixes them into a new-found aesthetic order, and then presses the repeat button – the neon lights ever a reminder of a world that never sleeps.

Prosper Legault lives and works in Paris, where he studied at the Beaux-Arts de Paris (2020). He is the recipient of several grants and awards, including the 1 % Marché de l’art (2023), the ADIAF Emergence Grant (2022), and the Rubis Mécénat prize (2020). His work is part of public and private collections, including Fonds d’Art Contemporain Paris and the Société Générale Collection.
