If you’re a hard-working professional who finds it difficult to express your ideas or stand your ground, the techniques in this post are for you.

As an IT professional, I spent years focusing entirely on my “hard skills,” believing my work would speak for itself. It didn’t. In the corporate world, if you don’t speak up, you’re often invisible.

I used to think confidence was a trait you were born with—but I was wrong. Confidence is a habit. With the right toolkit and consistent practice, it’s a skill anyone can learn. After attending multiple seminars and diving into improv theater, I’ve finally become the version of myself I always wanted to be.

Here are three techniques I tried out myself:

Stop “shrinking” in meetings with a simple visualization.

  • Action: Imagine a gentle string attached to the crown of your head, pulling you toward the ceiling.

  • The Result: You’ll naturally appear present and attentive, with better posture and easier breathing.

The longer you stay silent, the harder it is to speak up. The “barrier to entry” grows every minute.

  • Action: Say something within the first two minutes—even a simple “Good morning” or “I agree.”

  • The Result: This warms up your voice and “claims” your presence. Once that first step is taken, sharing bigger thoughts feels much easier.

If you don’t track your value, you can’t expect your manager to do it for you.

  • Action: Keep a running list of every “win” (e.g., “fixed a bug that saved 2 hours of manual work” or “received positive feedback on a project”).

  • The Result: This transforms “bragging” into “providing data.” It’s a game-changer for performance reviews and salary negotiations because it removes the emotional weight and makes your visibility feel logical and safe.

These techniques are part of my new ebook: Speak Up Without Freaking Out: The Quiet Professional’s Guide to Confidence, Voice and Being Heard.

To celebrate the launch, I’m offering a 15% discount, valid from January 12, 2026, to January 20, 2026.
