Charlie to the Rescue! · Charlie Dog

Meet Nebula, a beautiful 55-pound girl with a playful spirit, a clever mind, and a heart full of love to give. Whether she's exploring the outdoors, carrying around her favorite tug toy, or curling up beside you for belly rubs, Nebula is happiest when she's spending time with her people.

Since moving into her foster home, Nebula has shown what a wonderful companion she can be. She's settled into home life beautifully and has proven to be calm and easygoing when left alone. She is a champ when her foster is away, showing zero signs of stress or anxiety and relaxing comfortably on her own. Her ability to settle independently makes her an especially nice fit for someone looking for a dog who can enjoy quality time together without needing constant attention.

Nebula has also made excellent progress with housetraining. After a few accidents during her initial adjustment period, she has now had no issues and is reliably housetrained in her foster home. She has clearly settled into her routine and is showing that she understands her house manners.

One of Nebula's favorite things is simply being close to her people. She's incredibly affectionate and loves snuggling on the couch, soaking up belly rubs, and spending quality time with her family. Her foster describes her as clever, playful, and wonderfully cuddly-the kind of dog who is just as happy relaxing beside you as she is enjoying a fun play session. She loves playing tug with fabric toys, chewing on her favorite pork chomps, and soaking up attention from her people.

Nebula has a wonderful combination of playful energy and an impressive ability to settle. She enjoys bursts of zoomies and playful activity, but most of the time she's relaxed and content. She especially enjoys getting outside and recently had a great time visiting the park. Whether she's enjoying an outdoor adventure, playing tug, or curled up next to her person, Nebula has a fun, adaptable personality.

She's also proving to be a smart and eager learner. Nebula already knows "sit" and recently learned "touch," or hand targeting. She's doing well with the "It's Yer Choice" game and continues to work on engage/disengage training. Her progress with engage/disengage has been limited so far, but she's showing that she can learn new skills and responds well to positive reinforcement. She'll thrive with an adopter who enjoys training and can continue building her confidence and skills through patient, reward-based methods.

On walks, Nebula is an enthusiastic explorer who enjoys taking in all the sights and smells around her. She does pull consistently and can pull quite strongly when she sees another dog or animal. She is highly reactive to dogs and small animals while on leash, so her future adopter should be prepared to continue working on this behavior and to manage her environment thoughtfully. She'll do best with someone committed to positive reinforcement training who understands that helping her succeed may mean creating distance from triggers rather than expecting her to greet them. Despite this challenge, Nebula is making progress with her training and enjoys learning alongside her person.

When it comes to people, Nebula is a sweetheart. She recently welcomed a female visitor into her foster home and did very well. She jumped up once when they first met, but quickly settled into more polite behavior and was friendly and comfortable afterward. She enjoys being around people and is affectionate once introductions are made.

Because she can become highly aroused by certain triggers and is still working on her impulse control, any interactions with children should be thoughtfully managed and supervised. Her future family should be prepared to continue helping her develop polite greetings and appropriate behavior around all members of the household.

Nebula previously enjoyed playful interactions with select dogs at BARCS, but her strong leash reactivity toward other dogs means that her compatibility with individual dogs should be evaluated carefully. She may do best as the only pet, although a carefully selected canine companion could potentially be considered after appropriate introductions and management. Any resident dog should meet Nebula before adoption to determine whether they are a good match. Homes with cats or other small animals should be prepared for careful management given her reactivity toward animals while on leash.

Nebula has also shown an incredibly resilient and gentle personality. Loud thunderstorms and fireworks don't seem to bother her, but her foster has noticed that she can be sensitive to raised voices. After being startled by a louder-than-intended correction, she briefly sought comfort in her crate before happily returning for reassurance and playtime just minutes later. She clearly responds best to patient, gentle guidance and positive encouragement.

If you're looking for a dog who is equal parts playful adventure buddy and affectionate cuddle companion, Nebula may be your perfect match. She's smart, snuggly, playful, and capable of settling beautifully at home. With continued positive training, thoughtful management around her triggers, a patient adopter, and plenty of love, this wonderful girl is sure to blossom into an incredible lifelong companion.

Nebula is currently enjoying the comforts of a foster home while she waits for her forever family. If you're interested in meeting her, please complete an application and email dogfosters@barcs.org for next steps!
