How do you manage your TBR pile? Do you read one book at a time or juggle a few? I tend to have several going at once, but they MUST be in different genres so I don’t get confused. Seriously. I tend to pull from historical fiction, rom coms, historical romance, and nonfiction. I occasionally dabble in fantasy. Most days, I spend time in each of my current reads.
Right now I’m working my way through Journey to Munich by Jacqueline Winspear (historical mystery, for my book club), Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Henry (romance), A Curse of Ashes by Sariah Wilson (romantasy), and Ruth by Ruthann Ridley (nonfiction, a Bible study I’ve barely begun). A little bit of everything.
I’ve also been thinking about how formats shape the reading experience. Some books feel perfect on Kindle, while others feel better in print. And audiobooks bring a story to life in a different way. I switch formats depending on what I’m reading. Typically, I keep most books on Kindle (including my library reads through Libby), but I often prefer nonfiction in print. I like to make notes in it if it’s part of a group study. I use audiobooks when they’re available for my book club, because we’re working through a series with characters with a variety of accents and I like hearing them.
Every year I end up loving a book I never expected to enjoy. Sometimes it’s a genre I rarely pick up or an author I’ve never tried. Those surprise favorites remind me to step outside my lane occasionally. My unexpected find for 2025 was The Girls in the Wild Fig Tree by Nice Leng’ete. Impactful.
