Yaysayers Wanted

It’s so easy - and lazy - to be a Naysayer. To tell friends not to take that risk. Naysayers risk nothing by telling others not to do something. If they listen and don’t make the move, Naysayers can always say, “You dodged a bullet” without ever having to acknowledge the possible opportunity that was missed.

I don’t know about you, but I would rather have friends who tell me, “I’ll be there with champagne. Or tissues.”

As a storyteller, one of the most powerful tools we have is the concept of “What if?” I even have an activity in The Hero’s Playbook on this concept.*

Many stories start out as “What if…” For a writer, this can open up crazy new worlds.

• What if there is a team Upstairs helping us navigate our lives? (A Love Story to the Universe).

• What if a famous couple from history is reincarnated today to fulfill a prophecy that will change the world? (We Meet Again).

• What if there’s a school on a remote island for kids to hone fantastical, yet real-world abilities, like animal communication, precognition, and more? (INSPIRITORS)

These are just a few of the novels/screenplays I’ve written. Now, let’s take that “What if” into our own lives.

What are the “what ifs” in your life?

• What if you had called that person when you were missing them?

• What if you had written that book you’ve been thinking about for years?

• What if you had taken that trip?
