Welcome Explorers!

You’re here because you’re an explorer. I know, because I am, too.

Many years ago someone told me,

“Brownell, you’re an explorer. And you’ll always be an explorer.”

As explorers, we are curious and open-minded. When we get an answer to a question, more questions pop up like a game of whack-a-mole.

And that, my friends, is the purpose of this blog.

When I wrote The Art & Science of Wishing I thought citing over 70 scientists and dozens of scientific principles over hundreds of pages would be enough. Silly me! Instead, more ideas and concepts came out of the woodwork, like I had conjured a magic spell that made every possible explanation or expansion come out of hiding and into the light. What to do?

I could write more books, and I am. In fact, because some people kept telling me, that no one in the business world would take wishing seriously, I took that as a challenge.

Can you relate?

Therefore, I am in the process of writing The Art & Science of Wishing at Work, and if you’re here, reading this now, I know you’ll love it whether you’re in business or not.

Still, I started making a list of possible articles for a blog, and when the list got into the dozens, well, here you are.

While I am a storyteller and an explorer, I am not a scientist. Therefore, I welcome thoughts, suggestions, and input! I might not be able to respond to it all, but healthy discussion is how minds are opened and new trails are blazed.

Since you’re also an explorer, you might be able to relate to my also enjoying writing fiction as well as nonfiction. In fact, I think fiction can often be a gateway to science. In this world, I consider myself to be an “explorer of metaphysical mysteries,” where I use the tagline:

Lose yourself in the fiction… Find yourself in the truth.

However, I’m guessing most of you are here because you’re curious about Cosmic Wishing, either because you watched my TEDx talk or have seen/heard the Cosmic Wishes show. I first got curious about wishes and wishing as I was writing a semi-autobiographical novel called A Love Story to the Universe. In it, I envisioned a magical world “Upstairs” I called Astraea where wishes are gathered, sorted, and granted. When writing a story, “worldbuilding” is a key component, making me decide, “What is a wish?” “How is a wish different from a prayer or a goal,” And, “How are wishes answered?”

Then one night I couldn’t sleep, so I listened to a science lecture. But instead of putting me to sleep, it woke me up – literally and figuratively – and made me wonder, “Is there science in wishing?”
