I woke up in the middle of a dream that offered a very clear symbol in my dream dictionary: unexpected good news. Before I explain further, let me ask:
What would “unexpected good news” mean for you?
Take a moment – heck, take the whole day if you need to – and come back when you have a good, solid list on what unexpected good news might mean for you.
Got your list? Great! Let’s continue.
Now that I’ve become obsessed with Cosmic Wishes (which, as you now know, are wishes + science), everything has a deeper, more profound, and expansive meaning. Before, I would have taken the dream symbol as a message from an unknown source and gladly looked for the signs and celebrated the gift.
Now, I have a better understanding of that “source” and call it Cosmic Collaboration.
It helps to understand the difference between a wish, a prayer, and a goal. A goal is something that’s in your control. You want to take a vacation or run a marathon or get an advanced degree. You set a plan and make it happen.
Prayers? Well, prayers are the opposite. They are asking for help from a force or energy outside of your control.
Wishes occupy a unique middle ground. They include things within your influence and beyond your complete control.
In this way, wishes might be more powerful than either prayers or goals. Especially when you apply the science.
As soon as you solidify a wish in your mind, your brain looks for solutions to bring your wish to life. You meet people who have achieved that wish. You read books and notice signs. This isn’t woo-woo. It’s wisdom. And it transcends religion, spirituality, and even metaphysics. Because here’s the truth: The more you understand the SCIENCE of wishing, the more control you’ll have over the parts that ARE controllable. And the more you understand the ART of wishing, the better you’ll collaborate with the parts that aren’t.
Have you ever seen the kissing scene in the movie Hitch? Here’s a link:
In case you can’t watch, basically the lesson is that with kissing you only go in 90%. Your partner has to meet you with that extra 10%.
Here’s how this same 90/10 principle applies to Cosmic Collaboration, especially when it comes to unexpected good news. You’ve done 90% of the work. You’ve used your ritual, gone through your three selves alignment, repeated your wish daily. Made it fun. Then, you let it go and let an outside force do the rest.
You see, as soon as the message of “unexpected good news” registered solidly in my brain, it triggered my Reticular Activating System, that signs-and-solution-seeking part of the brain that looks for patterns. And because I now know about the RAS, I am now equipped with more “science power” to make it work at optimal level.
How? I asked my brain (and Inner Self), what would qualify as “unexpected good news” and started making a list. When I invite guests to my Cosmic Wishes show I ask them to consider three categories of wishes:
💼 Personal or Professional
🌍 A Wish That Ripples
✨ A Whimsical Wish
I used this list to categorize my “good news.” The list kept growing and growing! I had to fine-tune some wishes into “news that I can actually use” and clarify that to qualify the signs must be truly unexpected and not just the outcome of something I’ve been working on. Here are a few:
💼 Personal or Professional
I wish for my TEDx talk to unexpectedly get selected as a featured speaker for the main TED stage.
I wish to unexpectedly be invited to talk about The Art & Science of Wishing at the Aspen Ideas Festival.
I wish to unexpectedly hear from a major media outlet like The Atlantic, New York Times, or NPR to do an article or show on The Art & Science of Wishing.
I wish to unexpectedly hear from someone I’ve been thinking about a lot these days.
🌍 A Wish That Ripples
I wish to unexpectedly hear that a Wish Circle has sprung up somewhere I’d never have imagined.
I wish one of my podcast episodes would unexpectedly reach far beyond my usual audience and spark good in people I’ll never meet.
I wish a thought leader would unexpectedly want to follow the Cosmic Wish movement out into the world.
✨ A Whimsical Wish
I wish cereal boxes held the answers to the mysteries of life.
I wish for my best friend to be the surprise winner of something silly that makes them smile.
I wish to get a surprise birthday message from someone I haven’t heard from in years.
Back to you: Take this blog as a sign that you’ll receive unexpected good news, too! To trigger your RAS, follow these steps:
Pick a signal: a dream symbol, a color, a recurring number, anything to remind you.
Decide it means good news is on the way.
Brainstorm what that good news could be, big, small, and gloriously silly.
Sort the possibilities into general, then specific, categories so your brain has folders.
Go live your life and notice what starts showing up.
Tell me about it! The more we share our results, the stronger our wishes become!
THAT’S SCIENCE! 🔬
Looking forward to hearing about all your good news! 🎉
May your Cosmic Wishes light the sky! 🌟
