Hello, intrepid food-lover!

Thierry and I just returned from six days in Mexico City — three days there, then three days in Puebla, then three more days in Mexico City. I’ll tell you about Puebla in a future post. First CDMX.

This was my fifth visit to Mexico’s capital, but somehow nine years had passed since the last trip. We were overdue! To prepare for the dining part, I talked to in-the-know chef friends and read widely. I didn’t want elaborate, formal experiences, didn’t need to return to places like Pujol, Quintonil and Nicos, wonderful as they are. My many years as a restaurant critic cured me of wanting razzle-dazzle; lower-key wonderful food — the kind of place that might wind up in the Michelin Guide, but usually not with a star — sounded just right.
