It was a great week for indie games and with Summer Game Fest here, it’s an awesome summer for indie games.
It’s amazing to see indies get featured in showcases and awards shows such as the Cozy Game Awards. The 30 minute showcase featured awards for the coziest of games plus included game premieres, trailers and Steam demos. I won’t spoil who won, for that you’ll need to watch it yourself.
One game that stood out to me at the show was Wild n Chill.
Wild n Chill - The pixel art style and chill soundtrack had me hooked, pun intended. I’m ready to relax in the wild.
Wild n Chill is a laid-back wilderness escape where ya forage, hunt, and craft the off-grid cabin of your dreams. Far from the noise and nonsense, it’s just you, your trusty companion, and a pal or two.

Indie Quest showcased several amazing looking JRPG games during its showcase this week. With world premieres and over 30 trailers, I wanted to share a few I am interested in as RPGs are one of my favorite genres full of intriguing lore, fast-paced combat, and fantastical worldbuilding.
Edge of Memories - From the makers of Edge of Eternity, Edge of Memories had me instantly with its art style and design. I got Tales of series vibes which I need more of.
The population of Avaris is ravaged by the Corrosion, a terrible affliction that mutates all it infects into grotesque abominations. Play as Eline, a young nomad, and lead fierce battles alongside your allies to save the world from extinction.

Full Circle - When the press release hit my inbox I saw this was made by a solo developer from Peru. It’s an incredible feat and one that I cannot wait to play. It’s also from the same publisher of Chained Echoes.
If fate was already written, would you still fight to change it? Full Circle is a JRPG inspired by the classics of the PS1 era, set in a world where humanity fled to the skies in an attempt to outrun their destiny.

Wicked Night: Holy Knights - I’m working through Dark Deity 1 and 2 at the moment and this looks like both games. I enjoy classic Fire Emblem games, which this hits all those marks.
Lead your army, shape their bonds, and watch those connections come alive on the battlefield as you fight to prevent the Wicked Night from spreading across Solance.

Alarial’s Blessing - This game has been on my wishlist since February 12. Each time I see it, I want it more and more. It’s a unique combat angle that shows the party and the art is stunning.
Experience the tragic tale of three wandering mercenaries and the lonely goddess who wouldn’t let them die. Fight challenging, turn-based battles and explore a continent of forgotten mysteries in this fresh twist on the JRPG genre.

Diorama Break - I’ve had my eyes on Diorama Break for a while now. The art style looks great and the premise is unique in that you can speak with the Hero you play as. That’s fun.
The special tactics JRPG where you can talk directly to the Hero (whether he wants it or not). Fight through turn-based battles and awkward conversations alike.

Runesmith - Nothing sells me faster than playing a dwarf in a game. I saw the name Runesmith and dwarves and I hit add to wishlist faster than a hammer hits an anvil.
Grab your beer and join Durgrim into his quest to get his money back from a summoner that is trying to end all creation. Runesmith is a humorous RPG where a grudge-holding dwarf runesmith engraves powerful runes, talks to other dwarves and kills everything else!

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting DLC 12 years after the game’s original release. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Songs of the Past is a brand new adventure following Geralt of Rivia. The DLC is being developed by CD Projekt Red and Fools Theory and is releasing in 2027 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
Both versions of the Steam Deck are now more expensive due to the increase of memory and storage costs. Steam Deck was one of the best handhelds to play indie games on, but with the prices reaching near $1000 territory, I’m not so sure it is obtainable to gamers.

Whether you’re a hobbyist gamer or put countless hours into AAA, AA, and indies, this industry is getting stupidly pricey. Compared to the Nintendo Switch 2’s $450, I’m curious if Nintendo will move more of its newest console after this announcement.
With the Steam Machine on the horizon, it’s looking like that will cost a thousand plus. Let the madness end.
Summer Game Fest is June 5 and the lead up is full of incredibly awesome indie events. There’s streams happening everyday starting June 1 running all the way up to SGF.
