Since launching this summer, we’ve been spotlighting Berliners who have a genuine heart for sustainability – the kind of people building tomorrow’s greener and more just future. The last edition was with Angeley Mullins. This edition features Coral Ruz, and trust me, this conversation hits different.
Over the past six years, she’s been at the forefront of sustainability, digital innovation, and community engagement in Berlin. As Founder and CEO of the Zero Waste Berlin Festival, she established Berlin’s first international event dedicated to zero waste and circularity, growing it into a recognised platform for collaboration even through the pandemic.
But she didn’t stop there. Currently, she’s also part of the team at N3XTCODER, a Berlin-based impact tech hub accelerating digital solutions for sustainability and social innovation. There, she contributes to programs like AI for Impact, re:think Circular Economy, and Cassini Hackathons, mentoring early-stage startups and working with clients like Microsoft, Google, and BSR.
What I loved most about this interview? It’s raw and honest, packed with reality checks for anyone engaged in climate work. No toxic positivity, no greenwashing, no pretending that buying a reusable tote bag solves everything (though we know you have at least seven at home). Just genuine conversation about the work, the challenges, and what it actually takes to create sustainable change in this beautifully chaotic city we call home.
