Hello from Clemo,
Thanks to everyone who came along to the Robin Ince event at The Pagan Arms on Beach Road last night! If you’ve been following Robin’s travels on social media you’ll see he lost his suitcase and has had to purchase a new shirt in each town he’s touring - Newquay’s charity shop gods graced him with a polyester mix shirt and wool tie, perfect in a heatwave. We had a fab time with much laughter and were all pleased to be in an air-conditioned basement on the hottest day of the year. Here are some pics to show what a fun time we had. Thank you to Robin for travelling all around the country like you do, to The Pagan Arms for hosting us and to Carly, friend of Clemo and Ince, for lift services!
We’re nearing the end of Pride Month and here in Clemo we’re still celebrating! Our Sunday/Monday bookseller has written a review of Paul Taylor-McCartney’s very special book, Cornwall Uncharted, released in early June. The non-fiction release reveals Cornwall’s vibrant queer histories for the first time, tracing a hidden tapestry of creativity and community from the eighteenth century to today.
Paul will be at Clemo Books on Saturday 11 July at 11am for a book signing. Let us know if you’d like to come along and meet the author and have a little catch up in Clemo Books! Tickets are free, they just help us know how many people to expect.
Thank you to everyone who came along to our free storytelling session last Saturday morning. The next one will be on Saturday 18th July, 10am, in Clemo Books. Our storyteller is Claire, an experienced teacher who specialises in early years, SEND and alternative provision. Storytelling sessions in Clemo Books are free, SEND friendly and suitable for ages toddler and up!
We’ve started planning our school holiday line up of free activities to help families with youngsters access literature (and support them with the financial burden that comes with entertaining children in the Cornwall summer break!) Funded by Penguin, the different author-led sessions are free to all and will interest youngsters aged 4 - 16.
Working with Newquay Library and Newquay Town Council some of the sessions will coincide with the council’s free stay and play sessions meaning little ones will be able to play for longer and meet new friends.
The free author-led sessions will take place in locations across Newquay, in the town centre and in more residential areas to make it as easy as possible to access them
We’ll send out an enews with more information once dates and authors are confirmed - we can’t wait, it’s going to be such a fun summer!
