Without admitting any fault or guilt, Meta has settled a lawsuit with 47 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories that were suing it over its products being harmful and addictive to children. Meta will pay out up to $18 billion to the states over the next 10 years…maybe. Additionally, they will restrict children's access to Instagram and Facebook to two hours a day. They will block access to their platforms between midnight and 6 AM for teens. They will also stop all notifications for teens’ accounts during school hours. The payout is contingent on other platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Snapchat adopting similar restrictions.

Of course, in addition to not admitting any guilt or liability, Meta will continue to harvest data from teens’ accounts. And all of the horrible stuff on Facebook and Instagram that addict teenagers to social media, while being limited, will still be available to teens.

Meta says it will also strengthen its age verification system, but let's be real. While teenagers can't figure out how to turn off a light switch or not to slam a screen door no matter how many times you explain it to them (I can hear my grandmother screaming at me now), they know how to get around age verification systems. If there are any filters that require parents to set up, they will probably have their teens figure out how to do it for them.

Meta is still fighting several other lawsuits. According to some reports, Meta has spent over $2 billion on its legal fees. That's almost as much as Donald Trump grifted off the Oval Office over the past year.

There are 68 days left until the midterms.

Creative note: Sorry for the short blog today. But it's after 9 PM, and I want to move on with my evening. I want to take a short walk and then watch Stuart Fails To Save the Universe while eating popcorn. I finished Best Medicine last night, and I highly recommend it. Now, I gotta wait until the second season comes to Netflix.

I was racking my brain for today's idea, and it didn't arrive until 3 PM. Unfortunately, I had a Zoom meeting at 4 PM. The cartoon was not completed until 7:30 PM.

Signed prints and books: I cannot take orders for signed prints or for my books at this time. So please do not send me money or place orders for them until further notice. Because of the stroke, it is an ordeal for me to get to the post office, so we’re gonna hold off until I’m fully capable of doing so. I appreciate your understanding.

Merch: Did you know there’s a Claytoonz store? My cartoons are printed on mugs, clothing, caps, and even a Peezy T-shirt. If you ever want a specific cartoon on some merch, let me know, and I’ll add it.
