So let’s get the new art out of the way! Ladies and gentlemen, Elly de la Cruz…

Been a minute since I finished a sports drawing. I’m also working a dual piece of basketball players - hopefully I’ll find time to get that done in the next week.

This one is of Reds phenom Elly de la Cruz. One of my hobbies is collecting baseball (and basketball) cards, and Elly has been one of the hotter names in the hobby for the whole year. From what I’ve seen of him (as an opponent to the Braves, of course), he’s a lot of fun to watch. As for this piece, I may still have a little tweaking to do before it’s officially “complete,” but not much.

I’ve been kind of flummoxed about writing a new post - I’ve taken two stabs at a “State of the Clay” post, and both times they were just too much of a bummer to post. The first addressed the recent self-inflicted death of “The Jam” creator Bernie Mireault and the complete lack of a safety net for comics creators when they fall out of fashion. The second was about my trip to the Rose City Comic Con a couple of weekends ago. The short version: I walked the entire con floor, and left without finding even a single comic for myself to read. I missed seeing like half of the people that I wanted to say hi to, as well. I swear, I’m not in that bad of a state of mind, but both of those things prodded at sore spots that I already had.

But this will have to do for now, to break the streak of nothingness. If only drawing and writing had a stalker owl mascot to scare me into productivity…
