Rainbows all the way

I drove to Bodhikhaya yesterday, travelling into the longest night of the year in the Southern hemisphere. I was accompanied by rainbows all the way. The night before I had a flicker of the sort of pain that usually indicates a bladder infection: fire and water. Rainbows are fire and water too - as sunlight passes through raindrops it is refracted and reflected. Magical shifts in density.

My whole being was dense after a week rich with symbolic gifts. I kept thinking of being pregnant in the way that a rain cloud is. I am so grateful for the time in silence and in nature - time for the density to dissipate.

It was also a week where I encountered an accelerant in our work on maternity care - leaving me with much to digest and metabolise. Water can be an accelerant for fire - water sprayed on burning liquids can increase the surface area and spread the fire. In this case, fire as a creative force, spread beneficially.

I’ve been doing the Insight Timer mid-year challenge: 30 days of short daily practices. Yesterday’s practice, in a twist of synchronicity, was about rainbows. It was a heart-based practice drawing on a visualisation of rainbow light, soft and diffuse, in the heart space. A practice for transmuting pain.
