Mit Disclosure Day (2026) läuft gerade wieder ein Alien-Film von Steven Spielberg in den internationalen Kinos. Da das nicht alle Tage passiert, sind hier sieben Alien-Film-Empfehlungen, die man entweder als Ergänzung oder als Alternative zu Disclosure Day genießen kann.
Dabei ist alles von Action bis Comedy, die Filme sind nach Bekanntheit sortiert; wer also Nr. 1 schon kennt, darf und soll weiter zu Nr. 2 scrollen - und so weiter. Es geht also etwas generisch los, am Ende kommen aber ein paar echte Geheimtipps.
Ein extraterrestrischer Übersicht.
Das Mutterschiff der Alien-Invasions-Filme. Kann man immer wieder in den Player schmeißen, zeigt das Geschehen aus den spannendsten Blickwinkeln (von der Army bis zum US-Präsidenten) und besonders Bill Pullman macht einen herausragenden Job. Wahrscheinlich Roland Emmerichs bester Film (auf die Fortsetzung sollte man jedoch verzichten).
Dieser Film ist auch nicht gerade unbekannt, aber einige dürften den noch nicht gesehen haben. Tatsächlich ist auch dieser Alien-Film von Steven Spielberg (es war der erste Film, den er nach seinem unfassbaren Erfolg mit Der Weiße Hai (1975) inszenieren durfte) und das macht ihn natürlich obligatorisch für diese Liste.
In Unheimliche Begegnung der dritten Art (1977) trumpft Spielberg zu seiner Höchstform auf und liefert einen First-Contact-Film, der sehr anders ist als Independence Day (1996), dafür aber fast noch sehenswerter (wenn man die beiden vergleichen möchte). Da muss er mit Disclosure Day (2026) erstmal wieder ran kommen.
Hier wird es schon etwas - sagen wir mal - kreativer. Ein pinker Alien-Schleimball aus dem All stürzt auf die Erde und droht, eine Kleinstadt nach und nach zu verschlingen. Beim 1988er Der Blob handelt es sich um das Remake eines Films aus den 50er-Jahren. Wer seine Alien-Filme am liebsten campy und als trashigen Sci-Fi-Horror mit tollen Effekten konsumiert, wird bei Der Blob absolut fündig.
Bei diesem Film handelt es sich um ein Werk, das 2019 als extrem gelungenes Regie-Debüt von Andrew Patterson durchaus für Schlagzeilen sorgte, dann aber recht schnell wieder in Vergessenheit geraten ist. Der Film spielt im New Mexico der 50er Jahre und erzählt die Geschichte einer Telefonistin und eines Radiomoderators, die auf eine merkwürdige Frequenz stoßen, die nicht von dieser Welt zu sein scheint.
Wer actionreiche und explizite Alien-Filme mag wird bei The Vast of Night (2019) nicht fündig werden. Ein packendes Mystery-Kammerspiel trifft es eher, auch wenn der Film dennoch mit großartigen Bildern aufwarten kann.
Tobe Hooper ist vor allem bekannt für The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) und Poltergeist (1982), die Horror-Koryphäe hat jedoch insgesamt Dutzende großartige Filme zu ihren Lebzeiten veröffentlicht.
Hoopers Lifeforce (1985) ist einer davon. Die Besatzung eines Spaceshuttles trifft im All auf ein außerirdisches Raumschiff. Darin finden sie drei makellose menschliche Körper vor. Sie beschließen, sie auf die Erde zu bringen, was sich als fataler Fehler herausstellt. Großartiger Genremix aus Sci-Fi, Mystery, Horror und Action.
Tatsächlich bleiben wir bei Tobe Hooper. Dieser hat nämlich nur ein Jahr nach Lifeforce (1985) einen weiteren Alien-Film veröffentlicht: Invasion vom Mars (1986).
Nachdem irgend etwas in der Landschaft hinter seinem Garten landet, stellt ein Junge fest, das jeder, der dorthin geht, mit einer merkwürdigen Persönlichkeit zurückkommt. Zunächst trifft es seine Eltern, aber dabei bleibt es natürlich nicht. Um sie und alle anderen zu retten, muss er den ungleichen Kampf gegen die Außerirdischen aufnehmen und dabei erstmal jemanden finden, der ihm glaubt. Ein zuweilen etwas trashiger, aber insgesamt absolut unterschätzter Sci-Fi-Thriller.
Mit diesem zugegeben sperrigen Titel runden wir die Liste ab. Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County (The McPherson Tape) (1998) von Dean Alioto ist anders, als jeder andere Film auf dieser Liste. 1998 als Fernsehfilm erstmals auf dem Sender UCN ausgestrahlt (mittlerweile bekannt unter dem Namen ‘The CW’) sorgte dieser Film für eine Kontroverse.
Und zwar bediente er sich einem Erzählstil, der nur ein Jahr später von einem gewissen The Blair Witch Project (1999) endgültige Bekanntheit erlangte: Es ist ein Found Footage Film, bei welchen den Fernsehzuschauern unklar war, ob es sich um authentisches Material handelte. Auf einer typischen 90er Home-Video Familienaufnahme, so fängt es zumindest an, werden hier plötzlich die Landung eines Raumschiffs und der Kontakt mit Aliens dokumentiert, die es nicht gut mit dieser Familie meinen.
Meines Erachtens handelt es sich hierbei um einen absoluten Geheimtipp. Wer möchte, kann diesen Film tatsächlich frei verfügbar auf YouTube schauen.

With Disclosure Day (2026) currently playing in international theaters, we’re finally getting another alien movie directed by Steven Spielberg. Since that doesn’t happen every day, here are seven alien film recommendations you can enjoy either as a double feature or as an alternative to Disclosure Day.
There’s a bit of everything from action to comedy, and the movies are sorted by popularity; so if you’re already familiar with No. 1, feel free to scroll down to No. 2—and so on. While we might start on a slightly generic note, there are some real hidden gems waiting for you at the bottom of the list.
An extraterrestrial guide.
The mothership of alien invasion movies. It’s a film you can pop into the player time and time again. It captures the chaos from the most gripping perspectives—ranging from the military to the President of the United States—and Bill Pullman, in particular, does an outstanding job. Arguably Roland Emmerich's finest work (though you should definitely skip the sequel).
While this film is by no means obscure, a fair amount of people probably haven’t actually seen it. It is, in fact, another alien movie directed by Steven Spielberg—the very first project he got to helm after his mind-boggling success with Jaws (1975)—which obviously makes its inclusion on this list mandatory.
In Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Spielberg is firing on all cylinders, delivering a first-contact film that is vastly different from Independence Day (1996), but arguably even more worth watching (if you care to compare the two). Disclosure Day (2026) definitely has some big shoes to fill to match this level.
This is where things get a bit more—let’s say—creative. A pink, alien ball of slime from outer space crashes onto Earth and threatens to devour a small town piece by piece. The 1988 version of The Blob is a remake of a 1950s classic. If you like your alien movies campy, delivered as trashy sci-fi horror packed with fantastic practical effects, The Blob is exactly what you’re looking for.
This film made quite a few headlines back in 2019 as a highly impressive directorial debut by Andrew Patterson, but it unfortunately slipped under the radar shortly after. Set in 1950s New Mexico, the movie follows a switchboard operator and a radio moderator who stumble upon a strange audio frequency that doesn’t seem to be from this world.
If you’re looking for action-packed and explicit alien movies, you won’t find them here. The Vast of Night is much more of a gripping, slow-burn mystery chamber piece—though it still manages to treat the audience to some truly spectacular cinematography.

Hooper’s Lifeforce (1985) is undoubtedly one of them. The story follows the crew of a space shuttle who encounter an alien spacecraft in outer space. Inside, they discover three pristine human bodies. They decide to bring them back to Earth—which turns out to be a fatal mistake. It’s a fantastic genre-blend of sci-fi, mystery, horror, and action.
Believe it or not, we’re sticking with Tobe Hooper. Just one year after Lifeforce (1985), the horror legend released yet another alien movie: Invaders from Mars (1986).
After something mysterious lands in the fields just beyond his backyard, a young boy notices that anyone who ventures out there returns with a deeply unsettling change in personality. It hits his parents first, but of course, it doesn’t stop there. To save them and everyone else, he must take on an uneven battle against the extraterrestrials—while first finding someone who will actually believe him. It’s a sci-fi thriller that gets a bit trashy at times, but remains completely underrated as a whole.
We close out our list with this admittedly clunky title. Dean Alioto’s Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County (1998) is unlike any other movie on this list. Originally broadcast as a TV movie on the UPN network (now known as ‘The CW’), this film stirred up quite a massive controversy back in 1998.
The reason? It utilized a storytelling style that would achieve ultimate mainstream fame just a year later thanks to a little film called The Blair Witch Project (1999). It is a found-footage film that left TV audiences genuinely clueless as to whether they were watching authentic footage or a hoax. Captured on a typical 90s home-video family recording—at least, that’s how it starts—the tape suddenly documents a spaceship landing and an encounter with aliens who clearly do not come in peace.
In my opinion, this is an absolute hidden gem. Best of all, if you want to check it out, the movie is actually available to watch for free on YouTube.
