Spring brings renewal, rebirth, and the miracle of Easter. In our home, we celebrate the victory of our Savior, plant flowers and vegetables, and enjoy the outdoors as much as possible. We watch the world around us burst into bloom while birds build nests and insects come out of hibernation. Even if you are still shaking off winter where you live, have a spring mindset. If you haven’t spruced up your home for Easter yet, add some fresh or fancy faux flowers, pastels, and natural decor. I love to bring out the pastel yellow tea towels and reset the table with lighter colors and fabrics. Open the windows any chance you get and always start the day by letting the sun in.
Most homeschoolers are itchy around this time to start looking ahead to next year. Resist this urge; press in to the season you’re in, instead. Notice the growth and changes in nature, in your children, in yourself. Sure, it’s good to think ahead and jot down some ideas or even decide on a homeschool group you’d like to join but don’t miss this —this moment, this month, this season. Right around the corner is May and where I live in the south that means the end of things — school, church groups, classes, activities...but today is here now. Enjoy it. Stay faithful in the now instead of rushing to tomorrow.
April is the perfect time to make nature outings a part of the weekly schedule. Try to rotate through a handful of locations to keep things exciting and take your nature journals along to record something interesting each time. Everywhere we look there are signs of spring and evidence of the Creator who thought it fitting to delight us with hopping bunnies, birdsong, and gentle rains.
I hope that your April is full of sunshine as well as rain. I hope you take in spring with fresh eyes and see evidence of our Creator every time you walk outside. And I hope these rhythms help you enjoy the light and life of the season.
He is risen, indeed!
