Damian Murphy’s collection of “occult retro-gaming fiction” has returned from our European printer and is now shipping.

Featuring six visionary stories, an introduction by Justin Isis, deluxe production, and cutting edge graphic design and original illustrations by Le.BLUE, this is a book that we’re all very proud of.

The above image is the accompanying illustration for the story “Night Lamp Lotus,” and the following text is an excerpt from said story:

While certain aspects of the game are unique to each copy, there are elements that appear to be universal, or nearly so. Almost every player becomes involved with the counterfeiters’ guild, for instance, those incorrigible forgers whose exploits are limited to the most trivial imitations—letterheads from companies that have gone out of business, arithmetic handbooks with conspicuous errors, cigarette rolling papers, losing lottery tickets, and made-up currency from fictional countries. They operate exactly like a secret society, one into whose ranks the player is compelled to initiate. There are several degrees within their organization, each of which requires the passing of a test. One in particular bestows possession of an item that illustrates an important feature.

The object in question is a silver whistle which is said to be useful for summoning wolves. The initiate is tasked with “borrowing” the original and creating an identical copy. In order to do this, you’ll need recourse to a different kind of forgery—the kind that deals with metals. Double meanings of this type are typical in Night Lamp Lotus and almost always indicate another kind of doubling—that of the “astral plane” as the Theosophists call it, also known as the mirror of nature, a numinous copy of the physical world that can only be accessed through the finer of the senses. These, too, are bestowed by the counterfeiters’ rites if you can manage to surpass the initial degrees. In this lies an essential key to several aspects of the game.

Also back from the printer is Josh Bayer’s new graphic novel, Utzy and Dusty: Swan, Swan, Hummingbird—you can check out an eight-page preview (and discount code) at our previous post. Both titles now shipping from Church Ghost.
