At Christopher Architecture & Interiors, design has always been about more than beautiful spaces. It’s about improving the way people live. That belief is what inspired founder Chris Reebals to dream up Christopher Kids, a nonprofit dedicated to creating specialized, accessible, and personalized spaces for children facing life-altering challenges.
Christopher Kids serves Alabama children ages two to twelve living with chronic or critical illnesses, physical and intellectual disabilities, and other unique needs. Through thoughtfully designed room transformations, our organization fosters hope, imagination, comfort, and independence for children and their families.
In many ways, Christopher Kids is a natural extension of the work we do every day. Design has the power to shape experiences, remove barriers, and create opportunities, and nowhere is that more meaningful than in the lives of children.
One recent project brought us to Rowan, a remarkable young boy living with cerebral palsy and visual challenges. Because of these challenges, everyday activities often require additional support, adaptive equipment, and environments thoughtfully tailored to his needs.
For Rowan, having a room designed specifically for him meant creating a space that could support therapeutic play, accommodate adaptive equipment, and incorporate sensory elements while still feeling warm, joyful, and inviting. Through custom built-ins, dedicated storage, sensory-friendly features such as a bubble tube, and a pull-up bar to support his physical therapy goals, we were able to create a room where Rowan can grow, play, and simply enjoy being a child.
Projects like Rowan’s are only possible because of the generosity of our incredible partners. We are especially grateful to Brandino Brass for donating the beautiful cabinet hardware used throughout the custom millwork, adding both function and a thoughtful finishing touch to the space. We also extend our sincere thanks to TWOPAGES, whose custom Roman shade brought warmth, privacy, and light control to the room while perfectly complementing the overall design.
The impact of Christopher Kids extends far beyond a single room. It is a collaborative effort powered by designers, makers, manufacturers, tradespeople, and businesses who believe in using their talents and resources to make a difference.
