I went to the Hamptons Whodunit crime writing festival last weekend for the first time and had a blast. I met some cool crime writers, got goodies from East Hampton’s own, Carissa’s Bakery, a favorite spot of Ina Garten’s, and checked out one of East Hampton’s famous beaches.
The festival, though intimate was jammed packed with crime fiction bestselling authors like Attica Locke, Lisa Unger, Brendan Slocumb, Alex Segura, and Kate White.
I met Sulari Gentill, all the way from her home in Australia, spending time in the US until the Edgar Awards next month for which her latest, Five Found Dead has been nominated for the Mary Higgins Clark Award.
The schedule ran like a Swiss watch and attendees had plenty of opportunities to get their books signed by their favorite authors.
Although I only attended the fiction track panels, among other events, there was a true-crime track, a graveyard tour, a mock crime scene contest and a trivia night.
A trip to the Hamptons wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the beach, even on a sun-drenched, yet chilly, April day.
A final word, if you make it to next year’s Hamptons Whodunit, get an iced coffee, a raisin snail, and a smoked salmon sandwich at Carissa’s. You won’t regret it.
