The Church That Prays Together...

Have you ever had one of those experiences that you did because you wanted to, only to realize that you needed it more than you wanted it? That’s what Sunday night was for me.

Sunday was our annual Celebration Sunday, where we give glory to God for what he’s done over the past year. Several dozen people came back for a night of prayer and worship in the evening.

The theme was “The Gospel Prevails,” and we centered the prayer and worship on the idea of glorifying Jesus, making disciples, and living on mission.

Meaningful acoustic worship punctuated times of prayer that Kurt, our pastor, led us through. The first prayer session was us praying by ourselves, and that was a much-needed time of confession and sharing my desire for the gospel to prevail in my life.

The next prayer time was in a small group of five people. I prayed with two couples with whom I serve in ministry, and the two husbands are part of our breakfast group for men in their 50s. That was a sweet time of prayer with friends.

But the third prayer time was especially powerful. Kurt told us to get into multigenerational groups. I was sitting among a bunch of Gen Xers, so I had to move to find some other people. I ended up in a group with one of my friends from the worship team, a college-aged couple I just met, and a teen who comes to church without his parents. It was an honor as the oldest person in the group (by far) to pray for multiple generations.

God is definitely at work at Eastridge Church, and it’s humbling to be part of it!
