Epoch Learners: FALL

I founded Epoch in 2022 as a magical (but dirty AF) “garage school” in Bozeman, Montana for K-5th grade. Everything about our little one room schoolhouse was enchanting and I’ll always hold the years at Epoch close to my heart. Flash forward a few years of worldschooling and living in Asia…I’ve returned to Bozeman, Montana. Upon return I was offered four teaching positions by local schools and bombarded with, “Are you going to start a school again?” by the homeschool community to which I answered whole heartedly, “No!”

Epoch was rad, but I was burnt out; however, I love children and I love educating through play and rich, sensory experiences so…Epoch (Take 2) was born as a no-school-school for the community of Bozeman. We’re offering field trips, school dances, school photos, talent shows, wax museums, social clubs, workshops, lunch room, etc all throughout the year!

Think of it this way…all the things we loved about school without the institution, homework, standardised tests, active shooter drills, bullying, and fluorescent lighting. We’re doing our own thing and being sure our kids are surrounded by other kids while we do it.

It’s FALL, y’all:

Wild Ones: A nature based social club for ages 5-12yrs old that meets at various outdoor locations on Tuesdays between mid-September and the end of October for hiking, climbing, nature play, observation of local species, nature journaling and fresh air!

Gamers: A screen FREE social club on Thursdays from Oct 1-Nov 5 to include Jump Time, Bowling, Spire rock climbing and bouldering, The Picklr and Escape 406! This club will meet again in the winter months for XC skiing, downhill skiing, board games/chess, and indoor waterpark!

Witches Book Club: In October we’ll be reading Roald Dahl’s witches and completing various learning activities throughout the month that will include a study of the Salem Witch Trials (mock trial as a group if participation allows) and all book club participants are automatically included in the Halloween Party at Storymill clubhouse Oct 30 2-4pm.

Manhattan Corn Maze & School Photos: Field Trip to Manhattan Corn Maze for all ages (parents needed for transportation only/optional) and Schoo photos completed by a local photographer are included! Woohoo! Picnic lunch required.

Halloween Party (Fall Fling): Storymill Clubhouse 2-4pm October 30 costumes encouraged! There will be games and silly dancing for all ages.

In September we’re completing a unit study on homesteading that is multidisciplinary and includes a study of Montana. I’ll show my kiddo’s main lesson books daily for inspiration, recipes, activities and invite local Bozemanites to join in on applicable field trips throughout the unit including bakeries, cheese cave, ranches, and farms. Don’t miss out.

October will focus on all things spooky…unsolved mysteries, Salem Witch Trials, “witches”, apothecaries and potions, cryptids, Edgar Allen Poe, ghost towns and more…

November is our “young patriots” month…Ellis Island, branches of government, historical landmarks, American history, and we may be taking a trip to NYC to see Hamilton live on Broadway and the Statue of Liberty if anyone is interested in piggybacking on that experience.

December is all about King Winter and honouring traditions and customs from around the world! We’’ be honouring the saints, making candles, volunteering at the food bank, and enjoying all the holiday festivities together.
