The part of entrepreneurship nobody warns you about

You’re not just an entrepreneur!

You’re a mom, a daughter, an aunt, a sister, a granddaughter and a friend, and somewhere along the way you started building a business too, but all those other people you are didn’t quietly step aside to make room for it.

Your commitments are still there and your heart is still there, because you are still those people, all of them, all at once, every single day.

When you became an entrepreneur you no longer work a nine to five and switch off afterwards. Your weekends aren’t what they used to be and your evenings aren’t what they used to be. You aren’t who you used to be either, and the people in your life who haven’t walked this path might not understand any of it. They might not get that you never fully switch off, that your mind is running the business while you’re making dinner or driving your kids to school or trying to fall asleep at midnight, and that this isn’t something you can just decide to stop doing.

What they really don’t understand is the emotional rollercoaster underneath it all. One day you’re confident and energized and you feel like you’ve absolutely got this, and the next day you’re depleted, flat, questioning every decision you’ve ever made, and there was no big event that caused the shift, it just happened, because that’s what this journey does to us.

I had a session recently with a client who was feeling vulnerable and emotional and couldn’t understand why, something that had never bothered her before was suddenly upsetting her deeply, and the reason is simple once you see it, entrepreneurship makes us vulnerable because it pushes us so far outside our comfort zone that our senses become heightened, we feel everything more intensely, and we feel exposed in ways we never expected.

This is the side of entrepreneurship nobody writes about, the inner cause and effect of taking the leap of faith to chase what we actually want.

It’s hard, mentally, physically and emotionally, and it feels harder because we don’t talk about it, so we internalize it instead.

We start thinking something is wrong with us, that this isn’t going to work, and our fight or flight response kicks in, and more often than not, we choose flight.

It is incredibly difficult to silence those negative thoughts when your business isn’t something you can clock out of, when you can’t push a bill to the end of the month because you don’t yet know if there will be money to cover it, and all of that leaves us exposed in a way a regular job never could.

When we are vulnerable and stressed we cannot perform at our peak. Fear creeps in, doubt creeps in, our judgment gets clouded, our performance drops, and we lose the ability to see things clearly for what they actually are, which changes the outcome, every single time.

Sometimes one session with someone isn’t enough. Sometimes what you actually need is someone who checks in with you regularly, who looks at what you’re doing and makes sure it’s aligned with where you’re going, who holds you accountable and keeps you focused so you don’t have to carry all of this alone. So that you have the support and the guidance to keep moving your business forward, even on the days it feels impossible.

That is exactly what my monthly mentorship is built for. It’s me checking in with you, keeping you focused, holding you accountable, and making sure you keep moving forward, even when life is pulling you in every direction and the cracks feel like they’re getting bigger instead of smaller.

If you’re ready for that kind of support in your corner, you can find all the details here: chantellemorrison.com/mentorship

You don’t have to keep doing this alone.
