integration

It is deep, soggy, middle-of-the-day-thunderstorm, longing for an air-conditioned bus after waiting for five minute summer, miserable and weirdly full of possibility.

harrowed

plus, midsummer/fall schedule

sex ed (part two)

I did not have an exact plan for this mini-series, so I don’t know at this point if we’re going to have a part three, etc.

sex ed (part one)

I got back from California two weeks ago, and as usual, I managed to forget how weird the process of returning to normal life is, how relentless and gorgeous and chaotic residency is, and how it forms such a strange bubble that is really like nothing else.

molting

I’m heading to residency next Monday, so this Substack will be on hiatus for a minute, unless there’s breaking news.

trending

Some nice news: My Lilith piece on fighting for abortion access won an Honorable Mention at the 2026 Rockower Awards in the category of Excellence in Writing about Social Justice and Humanitarian Work.

examine

This week (in which mifepristone can still be mailed, at least as of Monday), we’re going inward, maybe more than usual, below this picture of a sunny Brooklyn street.

reality

Before we get into it, there’s a Tiktok trend (not exactly a new one, it probably happens every year around this time) in which a group of graduating high school students, in regalia, dance around to a song, under the caption, “Dance if you beat teen pregnancy.” If someone had a baby in high school, or they’re currently pregnant, they don’t dance.

story time

We are currently (as of May 18th) in mifepristone-mail purgatory, since SCOTUS has put off making a decision about it again.

the teens

Until at least Thursday, mifepristone can still be mailed, while SCOTUS thinks about the future of a drug we should all be able to access. In the meantime, let’s talk about the teen pregnancy rate. (I found this Norman Rockwell sketch at a junk store in Williamsburg.)
