I skipped last week, which has amounted to more motivation to write this week’s “newsletter”. I still struggle what to call these. Essays, newsletters, journals. It feels closer to a journal entry, albeit a public one.
It’s officially Summer, astrologically. The Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year, was last Saturday June 21st, which means the days are shortening from here on until the Winter Solstice. My garden is showing signs of Summer, and that the gentle temperatures of Spring are a past dream. Peppers and cucumbers and okra are in high gear. Beans are beginning to lag in these 90 degree temps. Cherry tomatoes abound. This year I planted cherry tomatoes in pots on my porch and they’ve grown far better than the ones in my actual garden. Noted for next year. Yes to potted tomatoes! What has been a total bust this year are zucchini and squash. Each plant seems to croak once it gets large enough to bare fruit. Some have been desiccated by stink bugs, others just seem to croak…
