Two children and a woman are in hospital after they were struck by a driver in a vehicle in Barrie, Ont., Friday morning, police said.
Officers responded to calls of two children and a woman being hit by a motorist while crossing the street on Mapleview Drive W. around 7 a.m. Friday, Barrie police said in an emailed statement to CBC News.
A five-year-old boy and an adult woman were taken to a Toronto trauma centre by air ambulance, while a nine-year-old boy was taken to a local hospital.
The five-year-old child was taken to SickKids with critical injuries, said Ornge spokesperson Joshua McNamara.
Police said the female driver of the vehicle remained at the scene. Investigators are looking into the cause of the crash, they said.
Road closures at Mapleview Drive W. between Garibaldi Drive and Nakiska Court have reopened, police said.
