A 78-year-old woman is dead after a crash in Oakville Thursday evening, provincial police say.
Emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle collision near the westbound lanes of Highway 403 and Dundas Street E. around 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said on social media platform X.
An SUV was broken down in a live lane of the highway and was struck by the driver in an approaching tractor-trailer, said Sgt. Kerry Schmidt in a post on X.
There were two people inside the SUV, the 78-year-old driver and a 67-year-old female passenger, he said. Schmidt said the driver was pronounced dead at the scene and the passenger was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the crash, he said.
Roads were temporarily closed on the westbound lanes of Highway 403 at Dundas Street E. but reopened Friday morning.
Schmidt urged anyone who saw the crash or the broken down vehicle on the highway to contact the Burlington OPP.
