A 22-year-old man has died in hospital after being shot by a 17-year-old in Montreal's Plateau-Mont-Royal borough on Thursday afternoon.

Montreal police responded to the scene after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots on Henri-Julien Avenue near the corner of Carmel Avenue. Officers found the victim inside a pickup truck, suffering from life-threatening injuries.

He was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Police say the teenage suspect was located and arrested near the scene shortly after the shooting.

Investigators believe the attack was a targeted shooting.
