“Health is a state of complete harmony of the body, mind and spirit.” ~~B.K.S. lyengar
Last week I wrote about experience being an arch (using Tennyson’s poem, Ulysses as inspiration). Shortly after I scheduled my article for Monday morning distribution, I found myself spending the rest of the day in the Emergency Room followed by almost a week in the hospital. An unexpected and surprising event. Also, a powerfully educational and liberating one.
What was wrong was a mystery. The outside evidence was clear - a very high heartbeat and non-stop rapid Afib. But the why was elusive. The ER doctor mentioned an odd result with my Thyroid. The attending cardiologist scoffed at that having anything to do with what was happening. Meanwhile, I was given a gold gown to wear that signified that I was not allowed to get up by myself. That gold gown and I remained bound to my hospital bed for the next few days.
It gave me the opportunity to meditate and reflect. I thought about the astrology of these past few days. How an unusual planetary alignment heralded change. But what type of change? I thought about how this is a time of earthquakes, fires and floods, signs the Hopi noted when they described the end of the fourth world and the threshold to the fifth. But energy is never just global, is it? It is also personal.
If I was going to heal, I needed to recognize my personal earthquake was happening. A sudden reversal of fortunes related to health that would require a transition to a new state of being. As I meditated I worked to bring my heartrate down and by the third day, I succeeded. I could get up and walk and my heartrate no longer spiked. At the same time, a wonderful hospitalist, had isolated the cause. It was the Thyroid, after all. That same day, on the right levels of meds, all returned to normal.
Two gifts were given to me through this healing crisis. The first was confirmation that my intuition and higher self could work to heal. The second gift was a brilliant doctor who overrode the skepticism of the cardiologists. She not only found the healing path but confirmed for me that problems I had experienced with other medications were legitimate, and that those medications were no longer needed. It was liberating!
I came home with a new personal identity of a sort, no longer fearful of health issues that might arise. I returned home more deeply connected to spirit than ever, and with newfound energy for my writing. I’ve walked into yet another new beginning, deeply grateful for the wonderful care received from so many during my hospital stay. For me, it is a reminder how connected our spirits are, how cooperation and compassion, not competition are our future.
"Cooperation is always more powerful than competition." ~~author, Bob Proctor
I am eager to do my part to co-create that future.
With love,
Cathleen
