A few weeks ago, my friend Maria Alejandra reached out with an idea: bring together our experience with enterprise AI deployment and our current work at the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government at the Harvard Kennedy School. It became our “You Outsourced the AI—but You Still Own the Risk” article at the Harvard Business Review.
We argue that outsourcing AI does not outsource accountability.
Enterprise leaders cannot treat AI risk as a vendor issue or wait for regulation to settle. The companies that move first will build transparency into procurement, govern customization, plan for vendor transitions and create control frameworks that work across jurisdictions.
That is how AI risk management moves from legal exposure to strategic advantage.
