🎶 You can learn a lot of things from the flowers… 🎶
This song from the old-school Alice in Wonderland movie has been playing in my head this week. What I’m learning (or remembering) from the flowers lately:
Transformation is happening even when things seem dormant. Last fall my husband planted a bunch of tulip bulbs. My cynical ass wasn’t sure they would grow. Nothing, nothing all winter. Now, suddenly, blossoms everywhere! Subtle changes are always happening below the surface. Growth is often slow and unseen but it is still a force at play.
Embrace fleeting joy! From my window, I have a view of glorious trees blooming on the next street over. The petals are already beginning to fall from the tree and sprinkling themselves throughout the neighborhood. Good times aren’t guaranteed to last. Appreciate them while they are here.
Authenticity is vulnerability. Blossoms are tender things. They can be easily squashed, plucked, ripped from the earth. Showing the truth of who you are to the world is a risk. But maybe it’s worth it.
The physical world around me is very much Empress vibes at the moment and I’ll take it. Especially when the societal world feels more Tower like. We need, and deserve, to soak up Empress vibes when they are available.
In Tarot Theory & Practice, Ly de Angeles says “the Empress is Beauty - not in any stylized fashion but in an utter lack of pretense.” Flowers have that utter lack of pretense.
That brings us to the heart of today’s letter, reviews of two tarot books I read recently. One, of course, is Tarot Theory & Practice. The other is Living the Tarot by Amber Jayanti. I’ll share the memorable, the ‘meh’, and some favorite quotes with you here today.
