We just cracked our first 98°f day! Summer has arrived in Texas and the question on everyone’s mind is: How do I get dressed when it’s blazing out…and still look good?
In cooler months, most of us rely on jackets and layers to create visual interest. In summer, however, we lose that tool. Womp, womp. :(
But! The good news is that there are so many other tools we can use — once we know where to look. It’s like: When one door closes, another one opens, but you’ll only notice it if you stop staring at the closed one.
So in this post, we’ll turn our attention to the open doors. Twenty-three of them, to be exact! I’ll share my favorite ideas to help you dress for summer in a way that feels finished and rich with detail — no layering required.
Think of it as a resource you can return to throughout the summer, anytime you need a little inspiration.
1. Bag charms: Make your own! With friends! Have a little party!
2. Brooches: You’ve got so many options — metal, fabric, gemstone, wood. Go antiquing or DIY one for yourself.
3. Layered statement necklaces: Not one statement necklace, but two! Try one long and one short.

4. Belts: Think a little outside the box. My favorite is the long tail belt (a braided men’s belt is the easiest way to achieve this look). But there’s also fringe belts, colorful belts, leather cord belts, or belt bags.
5. Hair scarf: Put one on with any simple dress and it’s instantly a capital O Outfit.
6. Headbands: Get a thin one and let it echo another color in your outfit. Similar to the whole match-your-belt-and-shoes thing, but more subtle.
