Oh what a tangled Web we weave
When first we practice to decieve,
Innocuous it seems we start -
Following what betrays our heart.
Lie upon lie we build instead-
As others get caught in our silken thread.
Denying truth they twist and turn
For this is a lesson we all must learn.
Weaving and struggling I set myself free,
Returning to Truth and the authentic me!
We all may like to think of ourselves as truth tellers - but how honest are we really? The first person we lie to will always be ourself - for that is where all lies are ‘born’. To tell a lie we must first believe it to be true in order to share it in good conscience - or at the very least, to believe that the lie is a better substitute for truth in the moment we share it.
If we're being completely honest, we’ve all told ‘little white lies’ - often with the best intentions! Maybe we feel the cold hard truth would be too unpalatable- or the person in question would just be unable to hear it. Often, to share the whole truth as we experience it may seem not only unkind, but unnecessary. So, whilst some lies may be seen as protective of another’s sensitivity - there are times when nothing but the whole truth will do. Times when it is needed to bring someone into a place of understanding and self-development. Knowing the difference requires insight, discernment, kindness and wisdom.
Is it helpful? Is it kind? Will it change anything? Is it necessary for the greater good - or for the person's personal development?
The larger question will always be - is it my place to share? A hard truth coming from someone who loves and cares for us, will be better recieved than the same truth coming from someone who we’re uncertain of! When sharing a truth that may be painful or uncomfortable we need always to reflect on our motivation. Why are we doing it? Would it be best to say nothing at all?
Strange as it may seem, I've already written this post before! So when I re- read the original, I was uncertain about whether or not to post this almost identical sequel. Everything I've wanted to say today is contained within the previous post from October 28th, 2024 -and they even have the same title, and include the same song 🎵 😄. However, as I was about to abandon it, I realised there must be a reason for me writing it again - two years from the original. Maybe I needed to hear it echoed over again - as I always leak my inner world onto the page in this newsletter! So if you read my work regularly, you'll get to know me pretty well! I tend to write from whatever I'm sensing and feeling in the moment - more from my heart than my head - which is why it flows so easily and I don’t ‘correct’ it. What you see is who I am. A continuous stream of thought splurged onto paper - and I make no apology for it. Suffice to say, after reading the previous post - titled ‘Tell the truth’ - it says more succinctly what I have wanted to convey today.
In conclusion, the real message is just about becoming authentic - not lying to yourself and acknowledging your inner truth even when it may seem to be uncomfortable or inappropriate. We are all very complex beings, and often afraid to share our authentic self with the world 🌎. Could this be because we are still operating from an inner script that tells us what is ‘wrong’ or ‘bad’? Letting go of that script may mean upsetting a few ‘apple carts’ - but living your life as your fully authentic self will more than make up for it!
Be who you really are - on the inside! Those who love you won't mind - and those who don’t - won’t matter! (at least not in the grand scheme of things).
Much love, as always
Carole 💜🙏
