This week on Culture & Consequence, Andrea and I found ourselves bouncing between politics, power, joy, and absolute absurdity - and somehow it all made sense.
We started with Zohran Mamdani’s clean sweep in New York and what it means when someone actually uses political capital for the public good. Not the boogeyman version of “socialism” people love to panic about - the real kind, the kind that looks like healthcare, childcare, and functioning streets. Wild, I know.
From there, we slid straight into the World Cup energy flooding the U.S. right now — the joy, the chaos, the Scots, the Popeyes reviews, the free refills. It’s been a reminder of who Americans actually are when we’re not drowning in negativity.
And then, of course, we had to talk about the geriatric grip on American politics. The refusal to step aside. The Weekend‑at‑Bernie’s vibes. The way power clings to itself long after the lights have gone out. It’s not partisan — it’s a problem everywhere.
Somehow all of it — Mamdani, the World Cup, aging politicians, the culture wars, the week’s nonsense — came together to show us exactly where we are as a country right now. Messy, hopeful, infuriating, funny, and still capable of surprising ourselves.
