The Odyssey of Contradictions

Climate change is accelerating,

But hey, Helen of Troy is our major concern,

This daughter of a Goddess born from an egg,

Has gotten the MAGA crowd all worked up.

Was she white or black or purple?

Who the hell knows?

Or cares.

Homer never described her.

She was an invention,

A fabrication, A fantasy.

Fun fact: She never existed. A myth like the cyclops.

Wildfires scorch the globe,

But hey, Nolan got the armor wrong,

Like Kubrick had the wrong helicopters.

And what’s worse, they speak with American accents

Like John Wayne did as Genghis Khan,

Or Johnny Depp as Tonto.

Elon Musk wants Gibson to spin an “accurate” tale—

The same man who butchered Scotland’s past

With that grotesque farce, Braveheart.

Tens of thousands of children have been slaughtered,

Yet Achilles is played by a transgender man.

If they truly crave authenticity,

let them show the real story.

Spartan warriors sodomizing each other—as they did!

I bet Gibson will leave out that wee detail.

This Homeric poem has been interpreted

Many times over the centuries.

It depends on the poet, the storyteller,

or the filmmaker.

This is Art,

Nolan’s Art,

His story,

His interpretation,

And it’s fucking awesome!

But the lapdogs of war have cried havoc,

Echoed by politicians without solutions,

For anything,

And especially about doing something,

To save the damn planet and ourselves,

From the anthropocentric delusions,

Of Homo arrogatus ignoramus.

The Odyssey is a fictional story,

An epic poem. Extinction is a nightmare of reality.

Let’s not go there,

When instead we can whine about

The color of Helen’s divine skin.
