Let’s stop the bullshit.
Russia is building a new military base near Finland’s border.
Not talking.
Not threatening.
Not issuing press releases.
Building.
Concrete. Steel. Barracks. Infrastructure. Troop housing. Logistics.
Real military capability.
While Europe debates, Russia prepares.
While politicians hold another meaningless summit, Russia prepares.
While self-proclaimed experts explain why people should remain calm, Russia prepares.
This should sound familiar because we witnessed the exact same pattern before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The signs were there.
The warnings were there.
The troop concentrations were there.
The intelligence was there.
And yet a parade of fools, cowards, opportunists, and professional optimists kept repeating the same nonsense:
“Russia won’t invade.”
“We should not overreact.”
“It is only military exercises.”
Then the missiles started flying.
Then the cities started burning.
Then the mass graves appeared.
Then reality kicked down the front door.
Europe suffers from a dangerous disease.
Complacency.
An entire generation of politicians grew up believing history was over.
They believed prosperity automatically guaranteed security.
They believed trade prevented conflict.
They believed everybody thought like they did.
They were wrong.
Catastrophically wrong.
History never ended.
It simply waited.
While Europe was busy cutting defense budgets and congratulating itself, authoritarian regimes were studying, adapting, expanding, and preparing.
Now the bill is arriving.
And reality does not give a damn about excuses.
Reality does not care about opinion polls.
Reality does not care about political correctness.
Reality does not care how uncomfortable the truth makes people feel.
Before Ukraine was invaded, Russia built capability.
Capability always comes first.
Barracks first.
Troops second.
Equipment third.
Operational readiness fourth.
Aggression comes after that.
That is how military planning works.
Serious countries understand this.
Serious military officers understand this.
Only fools wait until tanks cross borders before recognizing a threat.
The construction near Finland does not automatically mean war is coming tomorrow.
But pretending it means nothing is equally stupid.
Military infrastructure is expensive.
It takes years to build.
Nobody spends billions preparing for absolutely nothing.
Nobody.
Winston Churchill spent years warning Britain about the threat growing in front of its eyes.
People mocked him.
They laughed at him.
They called him an alarmist.
History eventually proved he was one of the few adults in the room.
Europe now faces a similar moment.
The threat is different.
The circumstances are different.
But the arrogance is exactly the same.
Too many leaders still believe someone else will solve the problem.
Too many leaders still believe danger can be negotiated away.
Too many leaders still believe speeches are a substitute for strength.
They are not.
Never have been.
Never will be.
This is the truth many politicians are afraid to say out loud.
Strong defenses save lives.
Weak defenses bury people.
Strong militaries prevent wars.
Weak militaries encourage them.
Deterrence works.
Wishful thinking does not.
Hope is not a defense policy.
A hashtag is not an air defense system.
A press conference is not a tank brigade.
And virtue signaling sure as hell is not national security.
The world remains exactly what it has always been.
A dangerous place where strength matters.
Because it does.
Europe needs larger armed forces.
Europe needs stronger defense industries.
Europe needs hardened infrastructure.
Europe needs expanded ammunition production.
Europe needs cyber defense.
Europe needs civil defense.
Europe needs strategic reserves.
Europe needs preparedness.
Not next decade.
Not after another committee meeting.
Not after another election.
Now.
Every year wasted today becomes blood paid tomorrow.
That is the brutal mathematics of security.
Russia is building.
Russia is expanding.
Russia is preparing.
Those are facts.
The only question remaining is whether Europe intends to prepare as well.
Future generations will not care about today’s excuses.
They will not care which politician won which election.
They will not care who scored points in a television debate.
They will ask one question:
“When the warning signs were visible, what did you do?”
The answer cannot be denial.
The answer cannot be complacency.
And the answer sure as hell cannot be surrender.
The clock is ticking.
History is watching.
And Europe is rapidly running out of time to get its act together.
