April, Lately

April always feels like a quiet turning point.

Not quite the fresh start of January, not yet the momentum of fall—but something softer. A shift you notice more than announce.

This month, I’ve been paying attention to what’s unfolding, both in the studio and outside of it.

We recently presented a concept design to our clients, owners of an early 1900s four square home. We’re calling it the Kestral Renovation—a full remodel design of their kitchen, dining, mudroom, and butler’s pantry. It was so exciting to finally layout all of the ideas we’ve been sifting through and show our clients what’s possible.

There’s a certain moment in every project where it starts to feel real. Less like a set of ideas, more like a place someone will actually live in. We’re right on that edge, and it’s a good place to be.

At the same time, I’ve been creating early concepts for Cape Cod Renovation. I get obsessed about projects in this phase; It’s slower, more exploratory—pulling references, sitting with materials, letting things take shape without rushing them.

I’ve also been revisiting old sources of inspiration lately—especially print.
Milieu, Cabana, and Homes & Gardens are on heavy rotation.

There’s something about flipping through a magazine that the internet hasn’t quite replaced. The pacing, the restraint, the way ideas are curated instead of constantly refreshed.

Spring has finally arrived in Wisconsin, and I’m leaning into it in small, tangible ways.

I’m planning to pot hydrangeas and lavender in the backyard—nothing overly ambitious, just enough to make the space feel alive again.

It feels like a return to something simple: tending, waiting, watching things grow at their own pace.

I turn 40 this month.

It’s less dramatic than I expected—but maybe more clarifying.

I’ve been taking stock of what actually brings me joy versus what just fills space. What I return to, what I keep, what I reach for without thinking.

Less accumulation, more intention.

Even small things feel different through that lens—like a pair of summer shorts I bought from Mirth that I’m planning to wear on a birthday trip to Puerto Rico.

Not because I needed them—but because I genuinely love them. And that feels like a better reason.
