Today was our first playtest, and we used the opportunity to also test a web-app I’ve been developing for the past couple weeks to generate the world, towns, people, quests, etc.
When we first started experimenting with rules light games and quasi-solo game play to reduce the work of the DM as much as possible, we had a couple of amazing experiences using the online generators from Mork Borg. We created our characters and pretty decent dungeon and surrounding in less than 20 mins; I thought having a similar tool is VERY important for the players of our game. It helps newbies with the learning curve and speeds up the game for the rest.
Our setting is strange enough that using existing tools for generating towns or quests might not fit well enough. Better to have a tool specifically created for the setting with the lore ready to go so you can generate a complete hex-crawl (towns, people, etc.) instantly.
We will add several fixes and features to the app spreading the links, but even in it’s totally incomplete state, it’s already an incredible help for GMs.
