Green Sunday: Politics in Service of the People

Hello, Greens!

Every other weekend, our campaign—Butch Ware for Governor 2026—hosts a livestream event featuring special panel guests to delve into our campaign vision and the critical issues of our times. In observance of Passover, we’re making a one-time adjustment to our schedule and joining forces with the Green Party of Alameda County for their "Green Sunday" livestream. This collaborative webinar promises a rich conversation on current challenges and community solutions.

The session will follow a dynamic webinar structure. Our panelists will speak on key issues while our audience can participate through both chat and Q&A features, ensuring an interactive experience.

"Politics in Service of the People" – a conversation with Dr. Butch Ware alongside special guests Lauren Jauregui, representatives from General Strike US, and Chad Brown of LEAP (Lineage, Equity and Advancement Project).

What to Expect

In the midst of a collapsing economy, rising fascism, and the ongoing devastation wrought by climate change, our conversation will tackle a wide range of topics including:

• Building Community Power:
  Using my run for Governor as an organizing focal point, we’ll explore how California residents can resist overreach, mobilize community power, and imagine a forward-thinking executive office that champions healing, care, and resilience.

• Resisting Authoritarianism:
  From protecting California residents against unconstitutional federal overreach to pushing for the abolition of ICE (in CA) and divesting from fossil fuels and the oppressive war machine, our discussion will address the systemic challenges of our time.

• Transforming Institutions:
  We will examine the complicit role of institutions like the University of California system in perpetuating oppression, discuss safeguards for student activists, and advocate for tuition-free higher education as a pathway to empowerment.

• Community Needs and Collective Liberation:
  Additional topics include expanding access to housing and healthcare, supporting tribal sovereignty, and stewarding our essential agricultural and water systems. This conversation will also cast a historical lens on our present moment, highlighting our urgent choice between sliding further into authoritarianism or engaging in the struggle for collective liberation.

About Dr. Butch Ware

Dr. Butch Ware is not only the Green Party’s 2024 Vice-Presidential candidate, but also a lifelong activist, artist, organizer, and professor whose scholarship is dedicated to challenging empire, colonialism, genocide, and oppression. For over two decades, Dr. Ware has been transforming his deep academic insights into practical advocacy—from addressing the Gazan genocide to responding to the injustices witnessed in the wake of George Floyd’s murder. His teaching roles at UC Santa Barbara in History, Black Studies, and Islamic Studies further cement his commitment to building sustainable, just, and peaceful alternatives rooted in African, Indigenous, and Abrahamic traditions.
