The best books I read in January

A fantastic retelling of the story of Medusa. It follows a young Medusa as she leaves her parent’s solitary island and becomes an acolyte of Athena’s temple. This book is beautifully written. It illustrates the way women’s choices are disregarded or manipulated to fit he narratives of men or society. It also gives us a flawed, very human main character filled with female rage. Highly recommend.

My eldest son was gifted The Shadow and Bone Trilogy for Christmas so we decided to do a buddy read. I grabbed a copy from the library and we raced each other to the end. It was a great read for a young Young Adult reader. We are now planning to watch the Netflix show together.

A bad boy pro motocross rider pairs up with an Olympic gymnast so he can improve his freestyle motocross tricks to land a race team. This was a sweet and spicy delight. My girlfriend was reading it at the same time and we both loved that the male main character was a blue collar, regular guy with family problems, not a billionaire.
