The UN’s Committee on World Food Security, defines ‘food security’ as the ability for ‘all people, at all times, [having] physical, social, and economic access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food that meets their food preferences and dietary needs for an active and healthy life’. But food insecurity remains a global issue, especially for more vulnerable people: indeed, we are living through a global food crisis of ‘unprecedented proportions’, with up to 783 million people facing chronic hunger and over 333 million facing acute food insecurity.
