Brandi Lynn · The Beauty of a Switchblade

original ink by Brandi Lynn

They did not end the light;

they just made it uncontainable.

The bærnet was not a closing of the gate,

but a lifting of the latch.

When the wood turned to gold and then to air,

their voices didn’t die—

they became the warm lyft that wraps around our shoulders,

the sudden heat that rises in the chest when we dare to speak.

You can feel them in the fyr-glōm of your own skin

when you stand entirely in your own power.

They are the spark that catches in the dry grass of the mind.

They thought they were using the flame to purge the earth,

but they were just handing us the torch.

We do not fear the heat.

We are the ones who learned how to breathe it in

and spit it back out as lightning.

With grit and grace, Brandi Lynn ♡

The Beauty of a Switchblade will always be a free space to read and rest. If these words found a home in you, you can hold the physical weight of my journey in your hands. My debut collection of prose-poetry and original illustrations, Where the Broken Light Falls, is now available on Amazon.

I am Brandi Lynn. Welcome to a beautifully chaotic space for the outliers, the pattern-seekers, and the sensory-overloaded. We aren’t here to watch the healing; we’re here to watch the clockwork fail. If this resonates with you, I’d love to have you stay.
