Today we’re showcasing mystery thriller, romantic suspense, and contemporary romance author Barbara Freethy!
❓Why did you start writing?
The seeds of my writing career took root when I was a child. My mother was a huge reader and filled our house with books. Since I also lived on a block with all boys, who only wanted to play with my brother and not with me, I spent a lot of time reading, escaping into the most incredible adventures. I realize now I was always drawn to stories of courageous women, ordinary people doing extraordinary things. And that’s what I’ve ended up writing: complicated, sometimes messy, always emotional, occasionally morally gray, high-stakes drama, romance, and mystery! I love smart books about smart women, and I think they’re perfect for readers who like a mysterious puzzle to unravel along with relatable characters who may feel a little like them, and often an aspirational love story!
❓What are your favorite things outside of writing?
When I’m not reading or writing, I love being active, preferably outside. I love competing on my women’s tennis team—we don’t always win but we always have fun, or I’m learning how to play pickleball, or I’m dancing around to music in an aqua fitness class!
