Hey Friends…
et’s be honest - how many times have you heard someone say, “You just need better work-life balance”?
I’ve heard it (and said it) more times than I can count. But here’s the thing: work-life balance is a myth.
It’s this shiny, feel-good phrase that sounds like the key to peace… but in reality, it often becomes one more thing we’re failing at.
In this week’s episode of Busyness & Burnout, I dive into why the idea of balance might be doing more harm than good - and what to aim for instead: harmony.
Balance assumes everything in your life can be perfectly equal - work on one side, life on the other.
But harmony recognizes that life moves in seasons.
Some seasons demand more work, others more rest, connection, or care.
Here’s the shift that changed everything for me:
✨ You don’t need to balance it all. You just need to stay aligned.
Last week, on Busyness and Burnout, I talked about why “balance” might be setting us up for burnout instead of peace. We’ve been told that success means keeping everything perfectly even, but life doesn’t work that way. I shared how reframing life as a wheel instead of a seesaw helps us navigate changing seasons with more grace, how regular check-ins and small pauses can foster genuine harmony, and why we should strive for progress rather than perfection.

This week’s blog expands on the conversation—diving deeper into how to practice harmony day-to-day, release the guilt when things feel unbalanced, and create small rituals that actually keep you grounded.

Last week I was in Los Angeles for the National AIGA Conference, where I led a two-hour workshop on burnout and sustainability in creative work. This incredible experience reminded me just how needed these conversations are in our industry.
I’m also getting ready for an art show with the Women Artists of the DMV, and I’m so excited to be able to show one of my recent works - that just so happens to be my favorite. I’ll be posting a page on my website soon to discuss the show.
And of course, I’m still recording new conversations for the podcast — if you’re interested in joining the conversation on Busyness and Burnout, click here.
Life feels full right now - but in the best way. Every project, every conversation, every new step feels connected to the work I’m meant to be doing.
I’ve been doing regular micro check-ins—pausing mid-day to ask, “What needs my attention right now?”
Sometimes it’s finishing a task.
Sometimes it’s getting outside for five minutes of sun.
Sometimes it’s just breathing before the next meeting.
Tiny resets, big difference.
Try it: Set a reminder once or twice a day to pause and check in with yourself. You’ll be surprised how quickly it shifts your energy and focus.
I’m all about tools that make the busy feel lighter — and help you create a rhythm that actually supports your well-being. Here are two resources I created to help you do just that:

Close your eyes. Inhale deeply through your nose for a count of four. Hold for two.
Exhale slowly through your mouth for six.
Do this three times.
Notice what shifts.
That pause you’ve been putting off? This is it.
