Sydnea Lewis · Busyness and Burnout

Hey Friends…
Welcome to the very first edition of The Burnout Report! This is your biweekly check-in where I share what’s keeping me busy (without burning out), the latest podcast and blog gems, and a little “burnout break” to help you pause and reset. Think of it like a coffee chat in your inbox—part update, part inspiration, part reminder that you’re not in this alone.

Last week on Busyness and Burnout, I chatted with Patricia Ordóñez—designer, podcaster, and honest-talk champion—about navigating freelancing while managing burnout and those sneaky “am I even legit?” moments. We get into taking intentional breaks, coming back with clarity, and building a business that fits your life (not the other way around).

The companion blog post is live! I break down practical reframes (e.g., evidence over emotion, learning ≠ lacking, context over comparison) and share simple moves to quiet the inner critic before a pitch, post, or presentation.

The semester just started, which always means a season of readjusting my schedule—making sure I’m balancing teaching, client work, podcasting, and my own creative projects in a way that actually feels sustainable. It’s a reminder that our schedules aren’t static; they can shift to fit our real lives.

Here’s what else I’ve been up to:

  • Recording new conversations for the podcast (and if you’re interested in joining the conversation, click here)

  • Polishing website updates and tightening up my systems behind the scenes so everything runs smoother

Because my schedule has shifted this semester—with a few days now fully dedicated to Howard work—I’ve been leaning heavily on time blocks with built-in buffers. Instead of cramming tasks back-to-back, I create focused blocks for teaching, client projects, and podcasting, and then add a 10–15 minute reset between each block.

Those little buffers have been game-changing: they give me space to breathe, refocus, and show up fully for the next commitment. It’s a simple tweak, but it’s made my schedule feel less like a marathon and more like a steady flow.

Try it: when you map your day, block the task and the buffer.

I love sharing tools that actually make the busy feel lighter. Here are a couple of my own resources designed to help you create more space, clarity, and ease in your work:

  • 5 Days to Release Burnout → A free 5-day email series for entrepreneurs who want to stop burnout before it starts and build a business that supports their well-being. Sign up here

  • Guide for Mindful Work Practices → A quick guide with 7 techniques to add to your freelancer’s toolkit, helping you work with more focus, balance, and calm. Get the Guide

Unclench your jaw. Drop your shoulders. Look at something 20+ feet away for 20 seconds. Then drink a full glass of water. Tiny resets = sustainable energy.
