Iran’s state-run Quran TV aired a fundraiser offering money to whoever kills US President Trump.

It raised 81 million tomans.

• Sounds huge right? But that’s worth just ~$435 at Iran’s open-market exchange rate.

• This quickly became the joke online. People mocked Iran’s collapsing currency, saying it could be worth around a whopping $300 tomorrow.

✏️ Context. This fundraiser is separate from a far larger proposal in Iran’s parliament, where a lawmaker said in May that lawmakers were considering a bill requiring the government to pay €50 million to whoever kills Trump.

A power plant fire knocked out electricity across parts of Moscow on Tuesday, with outages also reported at subway stations and shopping malls.

The blackout coincided with widespread internet outage. More than 1,000 reports hit Downdetector within an hour.

📌 Note. The exact cause of the fire hasn’t been independently verified, but Russia was dealing with heavy Ukrainian drone activity that day.

Syria is now saying that nuclear material discovered at an undeclared site will stay in the country, contradicting an earlier Axios report that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) would remove it.

• Syrian FM Asaad al-Shaibani said it will remain under international safeguards and could be used for “peaceful civilian purposes.”

• However, IAEA chief Rafael Grossi said inspectors accessed the site after Syria disclosed it in July. He described the material as a few tons that could be misused and said it will now enter routine safeguards.

📌 Context. The material is tied to unresolved Assad-era nuclear activity. Israel destroyed Syria’s undeclared Al-Kibar reactor in 2007, and inspectors are now examining that site and other previously undisclosed locations.

Incidentally, Israel bombed a Syrian airbase in Idlib on Tuesday, saying Syria was about to let Turkish troops deploy there. 8 strikes damaged Abu Duhur’s runway and storage areas, with no casualties reported.

• Israeli PM Netanyahu’s office said Syria had ignored repeated warnings and was close to breaching an agreed security status quo.

• Turkey (Syria’s main military backer) condemned the attack.

• US envoy Tom Barrack called the strikes an “unnecessary escalation.” The US is now working on a deconfliction mechanism between Israel, Turkey, and Syria.

• Separately, video circulated showing uniformed men identified by Visegrad24 and Israel’s Foreign Ministry as Syrian soldiers chanting death threats against Jews. This make things complicated for Syria who officially insists that it wants de-escalation with Israel.

✏️ Context: Israel sees Turkish troops next door as more than an inconvenience.

Erdogan has spent years attacking Israel, backing Hamas politically, comparing Netanyahu to Hitler, and now saying Israeli military actions threaten Turkey itself.

With Turkey already training Syria’s army and keeping more than 20,000 troops in the country, Israel doesn’t want an openly hostile nation establishing bases and air defenses in neighboring Syria.
